Lets start by asking some simple questions:
*) Do you have the best mobile and/or land line subscriptions?
*) Can you make international calls from your work?
*) Is it best to make international calls from land line or mobile phones?
*) How do you call your family at home in Norway, when you are traveling abroad?
After reading the rest of the text below you will have an understanding of what should be the best solution for you and how you can save more money on your international calls.
YOUR MOBILE AND LAND LINE SUBSCRIPTIONS
The first thing we have to do, before we start talking about international calls, is to be sure you have chosen the best alternatives for your mobile and landline subscriptions. There are many companies providing these services, some of the largest ones in Norway are Telenor, Netcom, and Tele2. You can keep your mobile and landline numbers even when you change your subscription to another company. So there are no reason why you should not change if another company offers a better or cheaper solution.
We strongly suggest you take a look at www.telepriser.no regularly and compare prices between different companies and products.
This website allows consumers to compare the price plans for mobile and land line telephony providers. The service is provided by the Norwegian Post and Telecommunication Authority.
A quick visit to this site will reveal if you have the best subscriptions tailored to your needs.
LET YOUR WORK PAY FOR YOUR INTERNATIONAL CALLS!
Here you have 2 tips on how you can do this. The easy way if you have a land line at work and call via alternative 1 (access number 815 100 10). But you can also use your mobile.
(1) If you have a land line at your work, then you can call about half of the world via this number: 815 100 10. Try it out! It costs 0.59 or 0.99 Kr./min. dependent of the land line subscription you have at work.
NOTE: Many companies in Norway use 815-numbers as their support line, so when you call 815 100 10, it is not any different than when you call your bank or insurance company for support. Also the numbers cost exactly the same.
(2) Another way to call from your work is to call via 46 00 22 05 or 22 17 55 50. In this case you will need to pay 50 or 100 kr. to fill out your account before you can make a call. The good thing is that you do not need any credit cards! You can fill your account directly by your phone. It means your telephone bill at work will show deduction of 50 kroners. These numbers can also be used from your mobile phone of course.
INTERNATIONAL CALLS FROM A LAND LINE
Number of land line subscriptions in Norway are decreasing. Specially young people they only have mobile phones. The only benefit with a land line is if you wish to call via 815 100 10, for instance. 8xx-numbers are more expensive, if you dial them from a mobile phone. But there is not a good reason to get a land line if you do not already have it at home or at work. We suggest you use your mobile phone. Most of us in Norway have already a subscription where we can make unlimited number of calls to Norwegian local numbers (both mobile and land lines).
From your land line you are free to choose any of our alternatives that suits you. You can call:
- via access number 815 100 10
- via access number 46 00 22 05
- via access number 22 17 55 50
BEST WAY TO CALL NORWAY WHEN YOU ARE TRAVELLING
When you travel abroad and want to call someone in Norway, it is best if you can call them and tell them to call you back. It is usually cheaper to receive calls than making direct calls, when you are abroad. If you are in doubt, call your mobile company and ask for prices.
If you have internet connection in your hotel, then you can connect your smart phone or computer to internet and call Norway via internet, by using Skype or similar programs/apps. You can also call via Call Center delivered by Telefonkort.net
